Tim Rhodes - Conductor
Tim studied trumpet at the Royal College of Music with Malcolm Smith and David Mason, as well as Baroque trumpet with Mark Bennett. He graduated in 1996 after receiving the Michael Mann’s prize for orchestral playing and the Arthur Somervell prize for Solo Performance.
After leaving the College, he played as a freelance trumpet player in London and made appearances with the Royal Opera House, The London Mozart Players, The London Bach Chamber Orchestra and as a regular player in the West End production of Les Miserables. A highlight of his career was when he was selected to play Solo Baroque Trumpet at the reopening of the Globe Theatre.
After 7 years living and working in Bermuda Tim became Assistant Director of Music at RGS Newcastle then after 7 years moved south, first as Director of Music at Framlingham College and then Emanuel School, London. He has directed orchestras at St. John’s Smith Square as well as choirs at Westminster Abbey and Evensong at St. Paul’s Cathedral. Tim has conducted many choral works including Mozart’s Requiem and Mass in C Minor, Rutter’s Gloria, Britten’s Ceremony of Carols, Bach’s Mass in B Minor, Poulenc Gloria and Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man.
Tim and his wife Kate decided a move to Scotland was a much needed one (Kate is delighted to be back home!) and his two children Chloe and Sophie are loving getting a Scottish accent! As well as his love of music, Tim loves his sport and is a qualified Rugby Referee as well as the former men’s captain at Durham Amateur Rowing Club. Tim is Director of Music and Head of Performance at Hutchesons’ Grammar School, and is delighted to have the opportunity to re-establish the ties between the school and the choral society.
