Tim Rhodes - Musical Director

Tim Rhodes studied trumpet at the Royal College of Music, where he trained under Malcolm Smith and David Mason, and specialised in Baroque trumpet with Mark Bennett. He graduated in 1996, receiving both the Michael Mann Prize for Orchestral Playing and the Arthur Somervell Prize for Solo Performance.

Following his studies, Tim worked as a freelance trumpet player in London, performing with prestigious ensembles such as the Royal Opera House, London Mozart Players, and the London Bach Chamber Orchestra. He was also a regular performer in the West End production of Les Misérables. A career highlight was his selection as Solo Baroque Trumpet for the reopening of the Globe Theatre.

After seven years living and working in Bermuda, Tim returned to the UK and took on the role of Assistant Director of Music at RGS Newcastle. He later became Director of Music at Framlingham College, followed by Emanuel School in London. His conducting experience includes orchestras at St John’s Smith Square, choirs at Westminster Abbey, and Evensong services at St Paul’s Cathedral.

Tim has conducted a wide range of choral works, including:

  • Mozart’s Requiem and Mass in C Minor

  • Rutter’s Gloria

  • Britten’s Ceremony of Carols

  • Bach’s Mass in B Minor

  • Poulenc’s Gloria

  • Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man

Currently, Tim is Director of Performing Arts at Hutchesons’ Grammar School, and is delighted to be strengthening the ties between the school and Hutchesons’ Choral Society.
